Further Festival Adventures …..

Outreach events, Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th April 2009

Through the Theatre Futures project, Rose Bruford College is joining research and industry knowledge transfer with its outreach activity. Every year we bring schools and colleges together with our students and staff, as part of an annual symposium. The title for 2008-9 is Further Festival Adventures, following on from last year’s successful event. With the impact of digital technologies and pervasive media on performance, festival-going has never been more popular; the symposium’s purpose, at least for outreach, is to investigate how festivals engage communities, and to see how these developments might affect the curriculum.
There are two main outreach components:

The Changing Curriculum forum
A meeting of partners from Further and Higher education, and arts employers about creating training and progression links, particularly surrounding the performance curriculum. Invitees are from the College’s partner establishments in the regions, funded by the National Arts Learning Network; and from schools and colleges in the Thames Gateway, funded by Creative Way.
Delegates will be invited to share work from invited students, and from work being developed by the College as part of the week; as well as taking part in open discussions and evaluations about the evolving nature of the curriculum in the face of industry developments. College academic staff will be on hand to listen and contribute to discussion on curriculum evolution.
Delegates will also be able to share:
The Bexley Schools Festival of Performance
Rock bands; workshop drama; choirs; stand-up; short films; street performance and more. Based on the 14-19 creative and media diploma consortium bid, and specialist arts academies in Bexley Borough and beyond, the College is host to a wide range of events from local young people.
