Pointless Taxi film project and Rob Knox festival

The College is  playing host to the Pointless Taxi film project, a chance for young film-makers across the borough to exercise their creative talents onscreen and behind the camera.  Pointless Taxi meets every Tuesday at the College, lead by Darren Rapier and Colin Jolly, experienced film makers and writers.  Darren originally studied writing for stage and screen at the College some years back, and has just had a showing of his own short film “Blind Man’s Bluff”, shot largely in Sidcup. There is a trailer of Darren’s film on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5trp28S60U

Pointless Taxi  originated as a diversionary activity for young people at risk in the Weling area, and has been running successfully for about seven years.  It still has a strong social ethos, and the project looks for film commissions for films of use in social settings. Tutors are drwan from the film industry; where there has been strong support for the project from actoprs such as Graham Cole (‘The Bill’) and Linda Robson (‘Birds of a Feather’).  Many of the graduates of the project have gone on to study film or performance at higher education level, including Rose Bruford College and Ravesbourne College of Communication.

Growing out of the project came the Rob Knox Film Festival, as a way of celebrating local film making.  Originally the Bexley Film Festival, it was renamed in honour of the local young actor whose career was cut short by a knife attack.

The second Rob Knox Film Festival  runs 1st-9th June 2010. This is now Bexley’s premier showing of new films across the Borough.  From hosting workshops for film-makers and performers, to supporting the management of the event, the College is investing in the future of film in Southeast London.  Contact through the Facebook page.

The main event is the presentation of screenings and awards at Cineworld Bexleyheath on 9th June.
