Projects in development

Projects that are being developed at the moment include:

Inside Out
This project, in conjunction with Barking College and Bohemian Events, and funded by Arts AimHigher in London, is designed to raise awareness of career pathways and options in performance-oriented areas for young people in outer East London. The project will include a series of workshops in contemporary performance; including street arts and carnival; rock music, performance video and lighting; and events and product launch. The project is designed to culminate in a contribution to Barking Festival, raising awareness among the local community of the potential futures for young people in emerging areas. The project is also piloting an innovative use of social networking websites to provide peer mentoring.

This project is designed to be the first part of a larger partnership project with Barking College, working towards a progression agreement for technical/design students under the auspices of Creative Way.

Passports Into Performance (National drama progression network)

Growing out of the experience of last years’ national regional roadshow, we are intending to explore with partner colleges a series of progression agreements to make it easier for working class young people to get into specialist arts education. The report on last year’s activity is available on this site. The passports project is now being developed for Thames Gateway FE colleges, along with technical theatre projects encouraging careers in that area.

Work-based Learning
One of the growing success stories is the Foundation Degree in Organising Live Arts, which is taking RBC into new territories. The next step is to develop the learning content as distance learning material for students who may be working in the performance industries already. This development is part of a wider review of distance learning provision.

Meltdown 2
We are currently negotiating with University of East London; Newham College; Digital Fluid ; and Stratford Circus to create a repeat of last year’s highly successful Meltdown event. Meltdown 2 is designed to raise awareness for 36 15/16-year olds, of career developments in visual performance, including VJ’ing and digital music composition.

Flow Festival, Stourport
The College is working closely with a number of other organisations, including Spiral Arts and British Waterways, on a community project in Worcestershire. More details at http://stourporttown.co.uk/flow_festival.htm

Rokeya’s Dream
