Pip Nash

Pip Nash is a tutor in Theatre Design at Rose Bruford College. More recently Pip has continued a freelance career in design. Much of the recent work has explored site-specific and/or promenade theatre. This has included designs for productions by Cardboard Citizens, in the London Bridge Vaults, for Theatremongers, Billingsgate Fish Market, for Garden Opera, open air touring opera in Britain and Africa, and for the London Bubble, open air promenade in Londons parks and woodlands. Pip has also recently designed two pantomimes with London Bubble, and a new play for pre-school children and their carers, (collaborating with puppeteer Jo Smith), to encourage play and storytelling techniques. My Home

My Home was performed in houses across London, using texts gathered from interviews with people who were not born in Britain, talking about their concept of ‘Home’.

We inhabited each empty property to create a promenade performance, designing some rooms to be the same from venue to venue, whilst allowing the ambience unique to each house to create the subtext to the narrative. This experience was enhanced by a recorded soundscape that suggested another story, of unseen inhabitants of the house of fractured memories.

Each room, inhabited by a different actor, was designed to invite the audience into an environment that showed aspects of the character within. Here the real stories were told, taking the audiences into worlds suggested by images evoked by the texts. The stories recalled the smells, landscaped and foods of home, as well as reflections upon present day London, family, identity and belonging.
