Cicely Berry CBE, DLitt (Hon)
The afternoon starts at 4 o’clock with tea in The Barn Gallery where you can see an exhibition about Rose Bruford and her work at the College, and the development of The Barn Theatre, sourced from the College and Rose Bruford Archives.
At 5 o’clock Cicely Berry will open The Rose Garden in the grounds of Lamorbey House. Refreshments will be served in nearby Poet’s Corner.
At 6 o’clock a Poetry Recital in The Barn Theatre will be given by staff, students, alumni and invited guests. It will comprise a wide range of material spoken or sung by performers of different ages. It will feature poetry by John Masefield, Poet Laureate and friend of Rose Bruford, and will include recordings of Rose herself speaking poetry and Shakespeare’s verse. Incidental music will be provided by College’s actor musicians.
After the Recital there will be a Reception in The Barn Gallery.
Instead of a ticket for the event we are asking you to bring your favourite poem on a sheet of A4 which on your arrival will be laminated and hung on one of our poeTREES.
